Tools includes a global search widget on normal HTML pages. Signed-in users open Search directly from the top navigation, including the mobile navigation. Ctrl+K or / also opens the dialog when you are not typing in another field.
Search results are loaded asynchronously from /search, so typing does not reload the current page. Requests are debounced and an older in-flight request is cancelled when a newer query replaces it.
The search covers canonical Tools destinations and the public documentation catalogue. Documentation matches include page text, so a query can find a guide even when the words are not in its title.
Results are filtered by access level. Signed-out visitors do not receive account or administrator destinations, signed-in users can find their normal account pages, and administrator-only pages and documentation are included only for administrators. The server returns only display fields for matching results, not the internal search index text.
Appearance remains a personal setting under My Profile > Appearance instead of taking a separate top-navigation slot.
Use the arrow keys to move through results and Enter to open the selected result. Escape closes the search dialog.
